Bolton
Business Crime Initiative established in 2000 as the Retail Crime
Operation. Forming part of an inclusive benefits package to Town
Centre business. In 2002 the scheme was re branded as the Bolton
Business Crime Initiative to recognise the evolution of the scheme
to a holistic crime reduction partnership addressing all types of
crime and antisocial behaviour that have a detrimental effect on
the town centre.
The scheme is operated by Bolton Town Centre Ltd
in partnership with private business, Greater Manchester Police
and the BSAFE Partnership. The Business Crime Initiative is intelligence
led proactive approach to crime reduction. Membership is achieved
through Full membership of the Town Centre Company or as an associate
package specific to crime reduction. The business crime initiative
also works closely with the Bolton Town Safe Partnership an initiative
managed by the Town Centre Company to address Alcohol Related Violent
Disorder in the evening economy. Both Schemes have received National
Recognition and awards.
The business Crime
Initiative is used as one of the best examples of a business crime
partnership and welcomes many Towns and Cities who wish to build
crime partnerships in similar ways. In April 2001 the scheme received
the Business Crime Check Safer Shopping award and in 2005 was the
first in the North West to proudly receive the AABC Safer Business
Award which is regarded as recognition of high operating standards
and compliancy to legislative requirements.
